Small and Friendly Motel Campground Located in the Heart of Buffalo Wyoming

The Mountain View is a small and friendly motel and campground located in the heart of Buffalo Wyoming. The motel consists of classic 1920’s vintage log cabins that are finished in pine paneling and decorated in a western motif. All of the cabins have a HD 1080p LED TV with over 75 channels of HD Cable Television, microwaves, refrigerators, and WiFi internet. All of the cabins face a shaded courtyard. The motel has been continuously in operation since the 1920’s, and the trees (both deciduous and pine) in the courtyard have grown to provide a tranquil canopy for the entire property. In the courtyard, there are two gas grills, several tables and chairs, and a chiminea fireplace available for our guests.

Buffalo Wyoming City Info (What to do here)...
Buffalo has the largest swimming pool in Wyoming (120 x 80 meters), admission to the pool is free, and the Mountain View is the closest motel to the pool. The Mountain View is also the closest motel in town to the Buffalo YMCA (only 1 ½ blocks away). The buffalo YMCA offers a weight room, Jacuzzi, Olympic sized indoor heated pool, treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical trainers, an indoor basketball court, and the daily schedule of exercise courses is on display in the office of the Mountain View.

2 ½ blocks from the Mountain View is the city park of Buffalo. The city park has several large playgrounds. The free giant swimming pool is also in the city park. There is a restored steam engine from the old west in the park too. There is a nice concrete skateboard park with a 10ft + deep bowl, pyramid box, and rails in the city park. There is a ice hockey rink that serves as a street hockey rink in the summer at the city park too.

Clear creek is a scenic mountain stream that runs through the city park and downtown Buffalo. Fishing is permitted in areas along clear creek. The city park serves as the trail head for the Clear Creek Trail. The Clear creek trail is a 16 mile long hike and bike trail that runs from Buffalo up into the Big horn Mountains to the West. The Clear Creek trail has a PAR style exercise course, state historical markers, and a archery practice area.
5 blocks from the Mountain View is an 18 hole 4-star golf course. The beautiful backdrop of the Big Horn Mountains makes this golf course one of the most scenic courses to play in the entire country.

Buffalo offers a beautiful and laid back downtown area for shoppers. There are bargains to be found on antiques, fashion, hobby, and sporting goods available downtown which is only 4 blocks away from the Mountain View.
There are many tremendous restaurants available in Buffalo for every price range. There are several excellent steak houses, a couple of very high quality sandwich shops, Italian restaurants, restaurants that specialize in breakfast, soda shops, a Chinese restaurant, and better Mexican food than I have ever found anywhere in the southwest. The well known fast food chains are also available in town too.

Regional Info... (What's Nearby)
Buffalo is where Interstate 90 and Interstate 25 meet. The Mountain View is on the west side of town on US 16 away from the hustle and bustle and noise of the Interstate. As you continue to follow US 16 west of the Mountain View you ascend 5000+ ft. into the Big Horn Mountains. Route 16 is the most scenic, safest and best route between Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Badlands National Park, or Sturgis. All of the photos on this page were shot between Buffalo and the north-east entrance of Yellowstone. The Big Horn Mountains offer a high elevation paradise to hikers, fishers, hunters, mountaineers, mountain bikers, skiers, snowmobilers, and 4X4’ers (ATV's). Buffalo is in the shadow of Cloud Peak, the high peak of the Big Horn Range. The Cloud Peak wilderness contains the two northernmost thirteen thousand foot peaks in the Rocky Mountains. The wilderness area Surrounding Cloud Peak is extensive, it contains a glacier, numerous lakes above 11,000ft elevation, and dozens of hiking trails.

Historical attractions in the Buffalo area include the site of the infamous Johnson County Cattle Wars, in the late 1800's. The Bozeman trail came through Buffalo, and three forts were built to protect settlers destined for the Montana gold fields. The major battles of the Indian Wars took place in the area, Including the Dull Knife Battle, the Wagon Box fight, the Fetterman massacre, and Little Big Horn. This is hole in the wall country, for being the hideout to the wild bunch gang, who were led by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Bullet holes from the late 1800's can still be seen in Downtown Buffalo today, only a few blocks away from the Mountain View.
